Ollie Owl *free pattern*

Hello and happy December!

This December has probably been busiest in my life Uni had been so hectic and knitting socks for Xmas presents for my siblings is nice, but it takes time. I'm not the quickest sock-knitter in the world (believe me, I am rather slow), even one of the guys at my school told me that I am a slow knitter. Of course I was mad at him, but he made my day by complimening my scarf, which took about 300grams of yellow yarn and 6 hours. So basically I had to forgive him (later he admitted that he compered me to his grandmother...)

So as a snack between socks, I knitted a little owl (he was supposed to be a teddy at first) and for once I had my pens and papers near and I wrote the pattern down. He is super easy and quick to knit.

You need:
Oddments of white, brown, orange, blue and light brown DK 8ply yarn.
Needles size 2,5mm
Stuffing
Pieces of black and orange felt for beak and eyes

Body and head (make 1)

Next row: K1, [m1,k2], repeat [_] to end. P1 row
Next row: K1, [m1,k4], repeat [_] to end.
Begin with P row, st-st 13rows.

Next row: K1, [m1,k1], repeat [_] to end.
St-st 11 rows.
Next row: K1, k2 tog to end. P1 row
Next row: k1, k2tog to end.
Cut yarn and pull it through remaining stitches. Sew the back seam and stuff. Circle yarn around the neck and pull.

Feet (make 2)

Knit 5 rows.
Next row: K1, k2tog to end.
Cut yarn and pull it through remaining stitches. Sew the seam and attach feet to body, like in the pictures.

Next row: k2tog, k8, k2tog. P1 row
Next row: k2tog, k6, k2tog. P1 row
Next row: k2tog, k4, k2tog. P1 row
Next row: k2tog, k2, k2tog. P1 row
Next row: k2tog twice.
Cut yarn and fold the wing in half and sew the back seam. Attach and sew wings to the body just below the nec.

Hat:
With white yarn cast on 30 stitches and knit 2 rows. Change to blue yarn and beginning with knit row, st-st 8 rows.
K2tog at each end of every k row (so that you decrease 2 stitche every knit row) and continue st-st until you have 8 stitches. Break yarn and pull it through remaining stiches. Attach the hat to head and sew it in its place.

Pompom:
Cast on 7 stitches with white yarn and knit 3 or 4 rows. Cut yarn and pull it trough remaining stitches. Sew the white piece so that it looks like a small ball and sew it to the hat. (I really don't remember how I made the pompom, it was a last minute idea and I didn't write the directions down ^_~)

Scarf:
Cast on 4 stiches with any colour you like and knit (g-st) for about 16-17 cm or 6,5-7 inches. Cast off. You can make a stripey scarf if you want.

Happy knitting!!
