Little Baby – Free knitting pattern
This pattern was first published in 2009, back when I was still living with my parents and took photos with a little old camera. This took me way too long to update, but here is the updated pattern.
You need:
DK yarn in skin colour and in white.
Knitting needles size 3mm
Stuffing
Tapestry needle
Safety eyes/yarn to embroider the eyes and hair.
My finished toy measured about 17cm/7inches
Legs (make 2):
Cast on 10sts with skin colour. P1 row
Next row: K1, *m1, k1*, repeat to the end. P1 row
Next row: K4, *m1, k3* repeat 5 times to the end of the row (24sts).
St-st 5 rows
Next row: k4, skpo, k1, skpo, k1, skpo, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k4. P1 row. (18sts)
Next row: k6, skpo twice, k2tog, k6. (15sts)
Beginning with a P row, st-st 19 rows. Cast off knitwise.
Body and head (make 1):
Cast 26 sts with skin colour. P1 row
Next row: K1, *m1, k5*, repeat to the end (31sts). P1 row.
Next row: K1, *m1, k5*, repeat to the end (37sts). P1 row.
Next row: K1, *m1, k9* repeat to the end (41sts).
St-st 13 rows.
Next row: K6, k2tog 5 times, k9, k2tog 5 times, k6 (31sts). P1 row
Next row: K1, *m1, k2* repeat to the end (46sts).
Beginning with a P row st-st 17 rows.
Next row: K2tog across the row (23sts). P1 row.
Next row: K1, k2tog to end (12sts).
Break off the yarn and pull it through the stitches that are left on the
needle. Sew the back seam and stuff the body. If you use safety eyes for the
doll, insert them before stuffing. Now you can sew the feet to the lower body.
To shape the neck, use yarn to match the head: I sewed around the neck between
the increasing and decreasing rounds of the neck and tightened the yarn. I secured
the end of the yarn sewed it into the neck.
Arms (make 2):
Cast on 12sts. Beginning with a P row st-st 21 rows.
Next row: K2tog across the row (6sts).
Break off the yarn and pull the yarn through the stitches that are left on the needle. Sew the seam of the arms and stuff.
Sew the arms to the body, below the neck. Embroider the face and
embroider a bit of hair on the top of the head.
Diapers:
Cast on 22sts with white. G-st 2 rows. Continue st-st beginning with a K row
and decrease 1st at each end of next and every row until 2sts remain.
St-st 2 rows.
Inc 1st at each end of next and every following row until there are 22sts.
G-st 2 rows and then cast off. Fold the diaper in half, sew the 2 g-st rows at
the top of the diaper together. I sewed the top cast on-edge of the diaper to
the body to attach it securely.
Secure all the yarn endings to the body and cut them off, and your
little doll is ready!
